Meeker, CO at a Glance
Cowboy poetry, rodeos and a sheep and cattle drive that still filters through
the town's Main Street for spring and winter grazing set the tone for this small
agricultural community. Meeker is located in the scenic White River Valley,
on the north side of the White
River and at the base of a long ridge, known locally as the China Wall.
The surrounding area boasts untouched wilderness, such as the Flat
Tops Wilderness Area and White
River National Forest. Although Meeker is considered to be somewhat isolated
from surrounding communities, this Rio Blanco County seat is situated near the
easily accessible highway junction of Colorado
State Highways 13 and 64, just a short drive to the neighboring communities
of Craig, Rifle,
Glenwood Springs and
Grand Junction. The
landscape provides an abundance of nature, leisure and sporting activities,
from hunting and fishing to camping and snowmobiling. Meeker is also known for
hosting the annual 4th of July Range
Call Celebration, the longest running rodeo in Colorado. Visitors can complete
their trip by discovering the town's rich and colorful history while exploring
the White
River Museum, and leave with a memento of Meeker from the downtown historic
shopping district.
