Flat Tops Wilderness Area is the second largest in Colorado spanning 235,214 acres (952 km sq). The area was designated to plea for wilderness preservation in 1975 by U.S. Forest service offical, Arthur Carhart. The area consists of tundra subapline terrain and approximately 110 lakes and ponds.
